BIDDING IS CLOSED for the 2019 FTH auction.
Thank you all for helping us raise $23,435 this year! Signups for 2020 will be announced in December.
In the meantime, you can enjoy all the fanworks coming out of this year's auction over at
fth2019fanworks !
We're excited about this year's Fandom Trumps Hate auction, and we hope you are too! You can find the calendar below.
Sunday, January 6th: creator signups open.
Friday, February 1st: creator signups close.
Tuesday, February 19th: Browsing week begins.
Tuesday, February 26th, 8pm EST: Bidding opens
Friday, March 1st, 8pm EST: Bidding closes
Friday, March 8th, 8pm EST: proof of donation due from winning bidders
* Browsing week? What's that?
This is a new addition to our calendar! We’ve learned that many participants from the past two years, creators and bidders both, feel that a week is too long for an auction. So instead, we’re giving potential bidders a full week to look over all the offerings and decide what interests them, and then shortening the bidding period itself.
Curious about FTH? Read about us here.
Check out this year's list of supported nonprofits, along with our donation policy.
Still got questions? Here's our FAQ. (and if your question isn't answered there, check out the comments on this posts and the other three linked above -- we've answered some questions there, too.)

Date: 2019-01-07 09:39 pm (UTC)Creators who flake entirely are prohibited from participating in future auctions as a creator (but may still bid on other auctions). Although we do our best to follow up with people throughout the year, a creator who has ghosted on you is most likely ghosting on us too; we rely on bidders to let us know when they have lost contact. Creators who are struggling to complete their projects are handled on a more case-by-case basis.
We put the deadline (Nov. 15th last year, probably the same this year) in place to hold creators accountable to the best of our ability. Unfortunately, some people will still flake.
We hope you will still participate in FTH this year, as either a creator or bidder or both! If you don't feel so inclined because of your past experience we do understand, and will always encourage people to donate to any of these charities regardless of participation in FTH.

Date: 2019-01-18 04:19 am (UTC)For one thing, we have so many fandoms represented, we can't possibly have pinch hitters lined up for all of them. Plus, people often bid because they want very specific things - certain pairings, certain kinks/tropes, etc. We'd have to find pinch hitters that not only know that fandom, but also are willing to create to those specifications. (This was where our previous search for pinch hitters ran into trouble - we couldn't find anyone else to write for those pairings.) Plus, some of these auctions are for things like 50K+ fics, which is a lot to get from a pinch hitter.
And then there's the fact that, unlike with most fandom gift exchanges etc, bidders here are often bidding because they want that creator in particular. People who are willing to pay $100 for their favorite writer or artist may not want that item from anyone else.
Overall, given that it would be impossible for us to actually find enough/the right combo of pinch hitters to guarantee that everyone whose creator flakes out would have one, it's just not feasible for us to do it as a half-measure.

Date: 2019-02-12 08:19 am (UTC)Sometimes there might be an obscure fandom I look for but it’s not one that generally gets listed in auctions, it would be cool to ask for it and see if a maker might want to volunteer (then I know who to bid on during the auction 👍)
