Every year, we put together a focused list of small, progressive nonprofits that are making the world a better place on a very small budget. When you participate in the auction, you have a chance to help those amazing organizations out while also enriching your fandom!

This year's organizations work toward a range of causes: resisting censorship, journalistic integrity, civil rights, disability rights, reproductive rights, and human rights, provide humanitarian aid, and that bolster efforts to educate and create leaders for democracy around the world.

We'll be posting more detailed profiles of each of these organizations over the next few weeks.

Umbrella: LGBT Orgs

As we've done for the last four years, FTH is once again offering one “umbrella” category. This year our umbrella category is community organizations serving and supporting vulnerable members of the LGBT community. We're providing a handful of exemplary organizations working in communities where the need is especially acute, but we invite participants to donate to their own local grassroots organization as well.

Organizations marked with an asterisk (*) allow for international donations directly through their websites. The orgs without asterisks may take international donations through a paypal or venmo account. If you are a non-US-based bidder/donor and you are having trouble finding an organization to which you can donate, please email us directly at fandomtrumpshate @ gmail . com.

As always, we have an option for participating creators to support an organization that's not on our list. You can read our policy on outside organizations here.

We’re back, folks! FTH is back for be our ninth (!) auction, and there’s lots of good work to be done. (What is Fandom Trumps Hate?)

In this post you’ll find the calendar for the 2025 auction, along with links to some useful information, including this year’s list of supported organizations. (All of these same links can be found in our masthead, but since that’s not visible on mobile we wanted to make them easy to find elsewhere.) You’ll also find dates for our Crafts Bazaar. (wait, the what? Read more at our 2024 Crafts Bazaar page.)

Here is this year’s list of supported organizations. We’ll be posting more detailed profiles of each of them over the coming weeks. We also encourage you to look at the Auction FAQ (which has lots of useful information for people thinking about signing up as creators, as well as dedicated sections on bidding and on nonprofit orgs.) If you’re raring to go, you can look at our bidding policies.

Lastly, in a couple of weeks we’ll be kicking off our newly-revived offscreen activism tumblr blog, FTHAction. If you're on tumblr, give us a follow!

FTH2025 Auction Calendar

Monday, January 20th: creator signups open for both the auction and the crafts bazaar

Sunday, February 2nd: creator signups close.

Friday, February 21st: browsing period begins, crafts bazaar announcement goes live

Tuesday, February 25th, 8am ET: bidding opens. craft bazaar is also open!

Saturday, March 1st, 8pm ET: auction bidding closes

Monday, March 10th: craft stalls close

Wednesday, March 12: proof of donations due

…and if you’re thinking the gap between the end of signups and the beginning of browsing period looks long: we have also noticed this! In order to accommodate some back-end changes that will help the auction run more smoothly, we’ve given ourselves an extra week to get ourselves set up. We’ve also got some stuff in the works to occupy that time – we’ll say more about that when the time arrives.

Together, we’re going to make sure that there is at least one (1) good thing in the world with the number 2025 attached to it.

Four hours ago we re-opened signups, wondering if we might find 19 more creators to bring our total number of offers up to an even 1k. We asked you to reblog far and wide, see if we could get in front of new eyes. You guys came through in spades.

We asked for 19. You gave us 100, for a grand total of 1081 auctions, including 15 in brand new write-in fandoms, so maybe that flurry of reblogging worked in reaching new audiences.

Thank you. Seriously.

And now, sit tight while we run scripts and generate forms and posts. You'll get an email shortly with links to view your offer and a form for submitting edits.

[personal profile] fthmods

We think everyone who has seen our posts and wants to sign up has done so ... but we wonder if we can get enough new eyeballs to find 19 more creators (or more) in the next 4 hours because although we've already set records with signups this year, we're very curious to see what a Fandom Trumps Hate auction with 1000 offers looks like.

With that possibility in mind, we've decided to re-open the signup form through 4:30 PM Pacific. Signal boost like crazy and see if we can reach new corners of fandom before time runs out on this bonus window. Whether we reach 1k signups or not, the form will be closing again at 4:30 PM Pacific.

Fandom Trumps Hate is a fanworks auction raising money for progressive nonprofit organizations. You can learn more about us here.

Hi everyone,

we're back for our EIGHTH (yes, really!) year of the FTH auction. We're going to pin this post and update it over the course of the auction season. But for now, we'd like to share the list of this year's supported nonprofit organizations and the calendar for this year's auction (below.)

February 5th: creator signups open

February 12: Fan Craft Bazaar signups open

February 19th: creator signups close

February 29th: browsing period begins, Fan Crafts Bazaar opens

March 5th: bidding opens

March 9th: bidding closes

March 16th 19th: proof of high bid donations due

March 21st 24th: proof of 2nd chance donations due

Back in 2021, as we were pulling together the fifth FTH auction, we joked together behind the scenes about how great it felt that the name of our auction was no longer quite as on-the-nose as it had been in our first few years. But it's 2024, and in all likelihood 45 will be back on the ballot: just one of the many sobering and scary things we're facing down this year.

But for the past seven years, we've had the privilege of watching thousands of fans -- yes, literally thousands -- dedicate their time and money and energy to the twin projects of sending support to some amazing organizations while building and strengthening community ties within fandom. Now, more than ever, that kind of community-building is essential.

We hope you'll join us, and join one another, in sending much-needed financial support to these amazing organizations and in putting more joy and beauty out into the world in the form of fanworks. These are dark times, but when we join together we can make them a little brighter.

[personal profile] fthmods

You guys, we are absolutely blown away. This year we’ve amassed a whopping 748 sign-ups. We haven’t seen this much participation since our inaugural year in 2017, and we could not be more excited if we tried, truly.

Thank you to everyone who’s offered to created a fanwork this year; we are so very happy to have you join us. <3

The browsing period will open in a few weeks, and us mods have a lot of behind-the-scenes work to do before then. Don’t be alarmed if we’re a little quiet between now and browsing; it just means we’re hard at work getting everyone’s forms set up. =] We appreciate your patience in the meantime!

We’ll still be available through email, so if you have questions please feel free to contact us at fandomtrumpshate at gmail dot com.

And don’t forget our Fan Crafts Bazaar if you create or want to receive physical fanworks! We’ll be putting up our listing of all the stalls when browsing week starts on Feb 17, and we’ll keep signups open until the 24th.

Earlier we posted a roundup of all of the many awesome kinds of fan labor people have signed up to offer so far. In that vein, we thought it might also be helpful to post a summary of the “other digital fanworks” that are being offered so far, since this category is even more varied and mysterious than fan labor. We’re going to do this again shortly before the auction opens, when we have a complete list of signups – but we’re doing this now in the hopes that the complete list grows a lot between now and next Friday.

Please note that this “other” category is just for digital fanworks, not tangible objects. We don’t include fan crafts in the official auction (you can read more about the reasons here.) We do, however, have a fan crafts bazaar, which will help those interested in fan crafts connect to crafters who want to exchange their crafts for donations toward the auction’s supported causes.

We have nine “other” offerings so far.

Four of these offers are for fic remixes. (What’s a remix? You can read about it here.) Three of these offers (from the same creator) say “Remix will likely be a freeform poem, but may be a structured poem or a short fic.” The fourth offer promises a remix in traditional narrative format.

Between these four remix offers, the following fandoms are included: Sherlock, James Bond, Doctor Who, Good Omens, Rivers of London, She-Ra, Check Please!, Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries, and the Chronicles of the Imaginarium Geographica.

We have one other writing offer (so far), for fan poetry. This creator is offering to write for Yuri!! On Ice, Star Wars, or Percy Jackson and the Olympians.

Our last fic-related offer is super-cool if you’ve ever dreamed of having your own fic in book form: this creator will type-set the bidder’s fic, creating a print-ready PDF of a fic that they can get printed to produce a physical book. This creator is willing to work in any fandom.

We also have some amazing non-print-text-oriented offerings, too!

One creator will adapt an existing piece of fanart and convert it into digital cross-stitch. This creator is willing to create for any fandom, so long as the art is SFW.

Another creator is offering to adapt any teen-or-under rated fanwork in Doctor Who, Tolkien or A Song Of Ice And Fire by translating it into a conlang (Quenya, Gallifreyan, Dothraki, or High Valyrian) and setting that translation to a motion graphic/design video. This creator is a professional designer, and is willing to consult with the bidder on the aesthetic elements of the video.

And finally, we have a creator who will compose music! The bidder will receive an MP3 of the finished piece, as well as sheet music and lyrics (if there are any.) This creator is willing to create for The Adventure Zone, Good Omens and The Magnus Archives.

N.B. Many (though not all) of the creators who are creating on the basis of an existing fanwork are also willing to use someone else’s fanwork as a foundation, so long as the bidder has permission from that fanwork’s creator.

So that’s our “other”-type fanworks, so far. We’re hoping the list grows between

Are you interested in offering an “other” type of digital fanwork  (or fic, or fan art, or a podfic, or a vid, or fan labor) in this year’s auction? Sign up here. Signups close January 31st.

Our very first one, hooray!

A writer from the Sherlock fandom says:

“The only reason I finished my first longfic was because of my beta reader. She signed on when I was about four chapters in, and just telling her my plans for the rest of the story made it so much easier to continue. She asked great questions that helped me discover new things about the story and the characters. When my seventh chapter just wasn’t coming together, she gave me incredible helpful advice about the flow of the scenes — and, what’s more, reminded me of a key dimension of the central character’s personality, which hadn’t been important to the story before but ended up tying it all together, and even pushing me toward a better ending than the one I’d planned. For those last few difficult chapters, I had someone who knew the story (and my hopes and plans for it) almost as well as I did, but who could also see it with a clarity that I myself couldn’t manage.

As proud as I am of that story, I know I couldn’t have done it without her. It’s been five years since I finished, but I’m grateful and I always will be.”

Send us your fan labor testimonials, long or short, at fandomtrumpshate at gmail dot com! We’ll keep them anonymous; just let us know what fandom you’re in. =]

We don’t know about you, but lately, we’ve had to drag, yank, bribe, or otherwise coerce ourselves to feel ready for the upcoming election year. It’s been a long, exhausting few years of truly devastating setbacks on monumentally important issues, gross negligence, and utterly demoralizing headlines.

But good things did happen too. One of those good things was Fandom Trumps Hate.

Over the last three years, creators from over 150 different fandoms (!) have created over 850 fanworks (!!) and in doing so, helped to raise over $73,000 USD (!!!) for a bunch of different organizations that are doing important work to combat parts of the unbelievable nonsense imposed on us by the current administration. In addition to contributing a whole lot of amazing new content for people to enjoy, you took skills you already have and channeled them into activism, and that’s amazing.

Creator sign-ups for the FTH 2020 auction will go live on January 13th.

Dust off your “to write” lists, rinse your brushes, rekindle your passion for your favorite fandoms. We hope to see you there.

T-minus 7 days.

This series reimagines Arthurian legend wherein the future King Arthur and wizard Merlin are young contemporaries. Arthur's father Uther Pendragon has banned magic in Camelot, forcing Merlin to keep his magical powers secret and act as Prince Arthur’s servant. Over the course of the series the two form a deep friendship as Arthur grows into the mighty king in the legends, and Merlin begins to recast Camelot into power with his developing skills.

The Chronicles of the Imaginarium Geographica is a book series in which three young men are recruited to become the new Caretakers of the Imaginarium Geographica - an atlas of the 'imaginary lands' of the Archipelago of Dreams. John, Jack, and Charles meet authors of great classic works - and several of the characters in them - as they struggle to keep both the book and the Archipelago safe from the Indigo King.

One author whose works get more than a passing nod is C. S. Lewis, whose Chronicles of Narnia are widely known for their fantastical setting and Christian allegory. Each of 7 books in the Chronicles of Narnia is set in the realm of Narnia which exists adjacent to Earth and accessible only via a select few gateways. Part of the series revolves around the adventures of the Pevensie children, who stumble across one such doorway into Narnia and establish the Golden Age of Narnia, leaving a legacy to be rediscovered in later books. The rest of the books have other protagonists and explore Narnia and its inhabitants from different perspectives.

Fullmetal Alchemist takes place in the fictional country of Amestris, where alchemy is one of the most-practiced sciences. Alchemists have the ability, with the help of patterns called Transmutation Circles, to create almost anything they desire. However, when they do so, they must provide something of equal value in accordance with the Law of Equivalent Exchange. When a failed alchemical ritual leaves brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric with severely damaged bodies, they begin searching for the one thing that can save them; the fabled philosopher's stone.

The TV series diverges dramatically from the manga plot after the 7th volume, and ends with a sequel film, Conqueror of Shamballa, released in 2005. A second anime series, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, which closely adapts the manga chapters, was later broadcast in 2009.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer is a supernatural drama TV series based on the 1992 film of the same name. The series narrative follows the teenaged Buffy Summers, the latest in a line of Vampire Slayers. Vampire Slayers are chosen by fate to battle against vampires and other forces of darkness, and are assisted by a Watcher, who guides, teaches, and trains them. The success of the TV show led to various tie-in products, including Angel, a spin-off series that casts Angel the vampire as protagonist after he moves to Los Angeles following a doomed relationship with Buffy. Angel works as a private detective in L.A, where he and a variety of associates work to "help the helpless", restoring the faith and saving the souls of those who have lost their way.

J.R.R. Tolkien is famous for his high fantasy novels, sparked by the 1937 publication and consequent acclaim of The Hobbit, a story he had originally composed for his children. The Hobbit and its three-part sequel, The Lord of The Rings, are credited with driving a resurgence of the high fantasy genre which focuses on stories set in epic fantasy worlds, with characters of an epic nature. Many of Tolkien’s legends, poetry, history and languages of Middle-Earth were published posthumously under the care of his son, Christopher Tolkien. The Hobbit and LOTR have most recently been transformed into famous filom trilogies by Peter Jackson.

The Man from U.N.C.L.E. was originally a spy-fiction television series that follows secret agents who work for a secret international counterespionage and law-enforcement agency called U.N.C.L.E.. Agent Napoleon Solo and Agent Illya Kuryakin must cooperate in a joint mission to stop the proliferation of nuclear weapons at the height of the Cold War. A recent film adaptation twisted the plot as professional thief-turned CIA Solo works to extracts the daughter of an alleged Nazi scientist-turned United States collaborator from East Berlin while evading KGB operative Kuryakin.
